Business Coaching Training

Alignment suggests that between two forces or entities there is a lack of straightness. Unfortunately in many organizational situations, this is the wrong word and consequently C Level Executives take wrong actions resulting in even greater problems.

Webster’s New World Dictionary defines alignment as “arrangement in a straight line.” When items are not in alignment this suggests that there is some crookedness to the line, but the overall line is “Okay.”

Many executives in leadership positions when looking at performance or organizational gaps confuse alignment with restructuring to a complete overhaul. This is because the people who are believed to be a crooked line need only minor adjustments are in all honesty the wrong people for that particular line. And to be even more honest, they may be the wrong people for that organization.

When you do not have the right people in the right seats in the bus (provided the environment of the bus is not toxic), no alignment will work. Taking any actions to straighten the line is a huge waste of resources and may even further create a more negative performance culture.

To ensure that leadership is taking the directionally correct actions requires first knowing the talents of all employees from the top down and then to receive feedback as to how these employees view the organization from their perspective. The first action requires a proven performance appraisal assessment while the second involves an organizational evaluation or temperature check using proven quality standards such as Baldrige.

Unfortunately, the word alignment continues to be misused by C-Level executives to even front line management creating a lot of poor results for organizations and those who deliver business coaching training to consulting professional services. When executive leadership understands that alignment is really just minor tweaking provided everyone is in the right seats, then resources will be utilized to their best advantage. However, the challenge is to make sure that the performance gaps are minor because if they are major then alignment will potentially not create the desired high performance work culture.

How can I develop my own leadership training/consulting business?

I am told I have the gift to gab and Im a natural motivator. I want to use my talent to help others succeed in the corporate environment or on a personal level like a coach. How do I find the information needed to do such a presentation to be marketable?

1. Look at what others in your field are doing. Then consider which strategies you will adapt to your own project.

create an outline for a small size class, or lecture, then get a group together and do your thing. …start small, get some clients under your belt who can give you testimonials.

Find someone in the field, make contact with them and see if they’ll share any wisdom with you
