Executive Coaches

Executive Coaches
Many within the professional and exponential growing industry of coaching be them executive, business, sales or corporate coaches promote their coaching certification first. Some of these individuals suggest that certification equals legitimization. The rationale continues because of some formal documentation these folks should be the ones you should seek first before any others who do not have the same credentials if you are seeking this strategy as a solution to:
* Increase sales
* Improve individual on the job performance
* Creating a high performance work culture
Given that we now live in a society where education such as certification presumes you are more legitimate, many believe this to be true. But is it really?
What does it mean to be legitimate? Webster’s dictionary has numerous definitions from lawful to reasonable to logically correct to justify. By using these explanations, then coaching certification does suggest legitimization, but is that the real question?
Coaching is defined simply as private instruction. The purpose of this learning strategy is to secure an improved result. In times gone by, this usually meant to pass a critical examination. In today’s world it is about moving from a current level of individual, team or organizational performance to that next level.
So if the essence of this instructional strategy is being able to secure results, then should not the question be: What measurable results does the coach deliver regardless of certification? For the bottom line should always be measurable results that are in alignment with the overall predetermined strategic initiatives.
Several years ago I had a conversation with a certified coach who believed that authorized credentials made her more legitimate. When she asked who certified me I responded – “The results of my clients. ” Her response was “results were not everything.” For my clients and me, measurable outcomes are primary reason why they hired me.
When there are no predetermined metrics established before engaging an outside solution provider, then maybe someone could justify their position that results are not everything. From my perspective not only as an executive coach, but as a trained instructional designer who can assess, design, develop, implement and evaluate training programs and curriculum, I find such a position one of ignorance, laziness and a fear of accountability.
Some people need help in moving from where they are now to where they wish to go. As a learning and even more important as a performance strategy, executive coaching be it in the role of executive coach, business coach or sales coach does deliver exceptional results when implemented correctly. Much research has been provided on the positive return on investment specific to this type of performance solution.
So if you are seeking coaching as a answer to some of your challenges be them individually or organizationally, then listen if the coach asks this simple yet very critical question: After everything is said and done, what measurable results are you seeking from my services?
For me, asking this question and understanding the answer I receive is far more important than any certification.
Why was Nabokov not pulled in any of the past three games, especially last night?
Is our new coach too hopefull? I love Nabokov, he is an awesome goalie and if not for him, we wouldn’t make it to the playoffs every year. But averaging 4-5 goals against in 3 straight games, there comes a time when you need to make an executive decision. He obviously was not in the game. Is there a reason for this that isnt in the news or whatever? Did he lose a family member, get divorced or something?
I think it’s because he doesn’t get rattled too easy.. I mean i know he gave up what? 6 goals last night?….. but since the game was tight most of the time he’s able to come up big for them at the most vital moments….
