How do I gain the respect of boy basketball players as a girl coach?

Executive Leadership Coaching

Hey there

I am coaching 5th grade boys with my father and some players are difficult to manage when they don’t listen to me. I have been in several leadership positions before and I am currently the captain of my own basketball team. It’s hard to get a group of young boys to respect me as a coach and basketball player.

Do you think they will adjust over time, or do I need to take a more direct approach?

Maybe show them that your a capable and knowledgeable player in your own right. Their 5th graders so ignorance is causing them to be sexist towards being coached by a female.

most boys that I know like to shoot before practice and like to scrimmage before practice ends
